Halloween

Our pumpkins from left to right: Rowan's pirate, my smiley face, Clarence's cigar smoking man, and Lydia's little baby pumpkin.

They went to school in their costumes today because they went trick-or-treating at some of the big buildings downtown (as they do every year). Rowan had his face painted, so Lydia wanted hers painted too. We hadn't even left yet, and it was already beginning to smear.

Rowan finally decided (after much debate) to go as a lizard. Clarence painted his face, and he was set.

After work and school, we went to Emily's house where we met up with Ms. Laura for dinner and trick-or-treating.

There was a bit of an umbrella issue (since it was lightly sprinkling the whole time).

Rowan was a sweet boy and let Lydia have his umbrella.

Ouch! Rowan could barely look at Clarence. haha.

I couldn't take my camera with me for trick-or-treating because of the rain, but I did get a few videos before my phone memory filled. We had a great time. Rowan and Lydia both said trick-or-treat, and they both said thank-you when they got their candy. Boy did they get some candy too! :)

After we got back from trick-or-treating, we set up a candle-lit table by the street. Rowan wanted to attract some "customers" so he could give them candy. We had a few people come by, but the ambiance under our tree in the candle-light was lovely.

We put glow bracelets in the tree to try and attract attention.

The tree held our umbrellas nicely.

Rowan sat on this brick wall, and when some trick-or-treaters came by, he sat very still like a statue and scared them half to death when he finally moved.

Happy Halloween!

Camping Part V - a coooold Sunday morning

A bear burrito...

Camping Part IV - hanging out

Saturday night, as we were sitting around the campfire, we heard the distinct sound of coyotes in the distance. I've never heard coyotes, and there were a LOT of them. It was enough to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. I admit that I was a wee bit on edge for a long while after that, and Rowan was scared too. Though it has made a good story to tell now that we are back in our comfy, safe home. :)

Camping Part III - hiking and running through fields

Saturday afternoon, the rain gave way to sun, and it was a lovely day to go for a little hike. We went down the Pinhoti for just a little ways, and then we wound up in a green field (possibly planted for attracting deer, but still very pretty).

Rowan was spinning, and then he was leaping...

And then Rowan was bounding through the fields. I don't think he sees nearly enough wide open spaces.
