Congratulations!

Congratulations to Rachel, Nathan, Evie, and Rosie on the birth of their new baby girl - Juliana Kate Dyer. She was born on March 20th. How fitting that she was born on the first day of spring! It was actually quite a gorgeous day too. I don't have a picture to post, but she is beautiful! 

Bananas

I know all these eating pictures probably look the same, but I feel the need to post it all, so I'll remember.

We tried bananas last weekend, and boy did he LOVE them.

He opened wide every single time he saw the spoon coming towards his mouth. We didn't even have to make airplane sounds or pretend that we were eating it and it was delicious.

It wasn't coming fast enough, so he grabbed the spoon! Actually, I think he's just wanting to do things for himself. At least it sometimes seems that way.

Almost sitting up

Rowan can almost sit up by himself. He's still a little wobbly, but he's probably going to be pretty good at it in another couple of weeks.

Zinn's taken a special interest in Rowan.

She also has a special interest in his toys;)

Daycare

I felt like I needed to write down how much I appreciate where Rowan goes to play everyday while I'm at work. I miss him very much, but feeling good about where he is when we're away makes it much easier to leave him.

I love how involved they are with the babies at our center. They allow them to interact with the older children. They read books, try new things - like pouring water on their hands or letting them sit on the side of the sink to stick their feet in, painting pictures (with paintbrushes or their feet), going on strolls around the city, and all sorts of other adventures.

Rowan was in another daycare before this one, and it broke my heart to leave him there. They never really interacted with the babies besides changing diapers or feeding bottles. I didn't feel that they were forming any sort of bond with the children.

Vicky, Felisha, and Charlene are wonderful teachers. They seem to actually be forming a bond with Rowan, and I'm so happy for that. I want them to love him and for him to love them and be secure and happy during the day. That is the best thing for him.

Part of why I write this blog is so we can remember all the little things that happened during these first years. I want Rowan to remember these women who are, most definitely, a huge part of his life.

Rowan has especially seemed to bond with Vicky. She's the smiling face who greets us when we come each morning. She tells me all about what they did the day before. Today she gave me a picture she had taken of Rowan when he fell asleep playing. It was precious. Other days we get "artwork" or pictures the babies "painted". And at the end of the year, we'll get a scrapbook so we can see what all they've done.

Spring is coming

Last weekend there was snow. This weekend it was about 80 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. It feels like spring is here, but I'm sure we'll have a few more really cold days before it warms up for good.

Saturday we went to the park with Em and our friends Kristi, Amy, Ed, and Eamon. We brought Laney and Sophie with us and had a wonderful time. I forgot my camera but got some good pictures from the camera phone.

Rowan was pretty sleepy when we first got there.
Rowan's friend, Eamon, is over a year, so he's walking all over the place. He was so cute barking at the dogs. He is such a sweet little guy. I think Ed got a picture of him hugging Rowan. So precious!

This evening we cooked some fish and "chips" with sweet potatoes as the "chips". So we pureed some sweet potato for Rowan to try. He seemed ok with it. I'm not sure I'd say that he "likes" it, but he didn't spit it out in disgust either. We have several baby cookbooks, and we are so excited to cook all kinds of foods for Rowan to try. Seems that cooking the food ourselves (instead of buying already made in the jars) is more fun and healthier too because we know exactly what's going into it.

We use the bumbo seat with the tray since he isn't quite ready to sit up in a highchair yet.

So after dinner, we had to have a bath.

And then we "read" a couple of books.

Rowan 6 months old!

Rowan is 6 months old today. Unfortunately he is sick, and he also had his 6 month check-up today. He had to get shots. So he's pretty wiped out now.
I love that gummy smile. I'm sure it won't be gummy for much longer.

From the other day (I couldn't resist). He's started chewing on his toes.

Random pics

My first baby, Laney;)Rowan is getting more and more coordinated every day. He reaches out and grabs everything in sight. We had fun playing on this quilt that Rosie Ping, Trisha's grandmother, gave us. It's a really beautiful quilt, and so cozy and colorful!Winnie the Poo is gonna.....Get him!Whew! The playing was pretty exhausting.

Cereal

We started Rowan on a little cereal last weekend just to get him used to the taste. Tonight he actually seemed to eat and enjoy eating the cereal. Emily and Elizabeth were also here to cheer him on:)
